Play Therapy
Play Therapy
Play therapy assumes a person-centered approach while working with children. Children often do not have the vocabulary to fully describe how they are feeling or discuss what they have experienced. Play therapy provides tools such as: art, sand tray, puppets, role play, and story telling to help children show us what they are experiencing. In play therapy children learn how to express their feelings in constructive ways, to accept responsibility, to problem-solve and to develop self-confidence.
Play therapy is a beneficial option for all children, regardless of the situation. Specific examples in which it would be suitable to pursue play therapy are as follows:
- anxiety
- stress and/or phobias
- withdrawal and/or unhappiness
- anger or aggressive outbursts
- being bullied or bullying
- school refusal
- sleep disorders
- eating disorders
- attachment difficulties
- difficulties with family and/or peer relationships
- parental divorce or separation
- fostering and adoption
- trauma
- bereavement/loss
- emotional, physical and/or sexual abuse
- illness and/or disability

Animal Assisted Therapy
Animal Assisted Therapy
Stephanie's American Eskimo, Gypsy, has been trained with professionals and certified by Therapy Dog International (TDI). Pet therapy interactions are used to help improve mental, social, emotional and physical functions. Individuals with emotionally based disorders find it difficult to open up and trust people, but often find comfort when a therapy animal is present. Benefits include a reduction in stress, a boost in self-esteem, improved mood, and better communication skills. Mayo Clinic reports that animal assisted therapy can significantly reduce pain, anxiety, depression and fatigue.

Massage Therapy
Massage therapy is used to help manage a health condition or enhance wellness. It involves manipulating the soft tissues of the body. Research has shown massage to be effective in managing several types of pain, including low-back pain, neck and shoulder pain, pain from osteoarthritis of the knee, and headaches. Massage therapy may be helpful for some fibromyalgia symptoms if it’s continued for long enough. It can be helpful for stress reduction, anxiety, depression, fatigue, and quality of life.
